The following features are illustrated:

  • Color-coded regional conformations (pink sections are unstructured, orange sections are alpha helical domains, and rectangular sections are anti-parallel beta sheets);

  • Locations of an 8-octapeptide repeat region near the N-terminus, and of two asparagine-linked carbohydrates and a single disulfide bond near the C-terminus;

  • Post-translational replacement of twenty C-terminus amino acid residues (at position 232) by a glycosyl-phosphatidyl-inositol (GPI) cell membrane anchor;

  • Sites and identities of pathogenic point mutations (yellow, with unidirectional arrows) and polymorphisms (blue, with bi-directional arrows); a polymorphic octapeptide deletion and multiple pathogenic octapeptide insert mutations are also indicated.
